Meeting Minutes – Tuesday August 27, 2019
- Call to Order
The meeting was called to order by the President at 7:34pm

- Chairman’s Opening Remarks
The President welcomed everyone for attending.
Al Wills: Kevin Mackie of Ministry of Social Services advised on August 2nd that the range property has been transferred to Ministry of Transportation.
Attended Invictus Games event, Victoria potentially to host the 2022 Invictus Games – to finalize later.
- Approval of Minutes
The minutes of the May 28, 2019 meeting were approved. M. Al Wills, S. Vesa Myllyniemi. Carried.
- Reports Around the Room
Al Wills: 2021 Nationals is still be determined – potentially Cranbrook to host the 3D event, and Victoria the Target – tba
Jarrod Ball: Tuesday Night Adult Classes at the range are now finished – there were 24 participants – 3 potentially to join the club. Noted that the 25m butt at the range is completely shot out/falling apart
Vesa Myllyniemi: no report
Greg Birtwistle: Jim and himself have repaired 3 butts at the range
Lisa: no report
Helena Myllyniemi: Summer camps are completed – 3 kids to join the club. Toilets were pumped and a bow was sold. Financial records are doing well – the summer camps are very lucrative for the club.
Brad Barclay: Outdoor Mailmatch is successful so far. Has all the medals for the Indoor Mailmatch – to have medal ceremony during one of the indoor shoots
Kendra Savich: Eventbrite doing well for booking/registering for events. Archer’s Anonymous has been posted on Facebook. She created a new website geared towards acquiring/informing new members. See draft website at www.victoriabowmen.com/new
Dave Ball: September 16 is the first Monday Night Drop-in. Sept 23 he will be away – Ellen Van der Hoek volunteered to run the drop-in.
- Business Arising from the Minutes
Al Wills: BCAA gratefully declined the offer of the old timer/clocks we have. Al still pursuing what to do with them.
Archery Canada’s Nationals Event was a success – Al was proud to see our Club’s Junior Barebow Mark Shields win Gold in the target competition, as well as set a few Canadian Records. Congratulations all around the table for Mark!
Greg Birtwistle: Suggested DynaFoam for replacing the ‘white’ butts at the range – $400 per butt (more cost effective than what we already have). Greg set a motion to proceed with the purchase of DynFoam for the butts at the range. S. Vesa Myllyniemi and Al Wills. Carried.
- New Business
Al Wills: AGM prep – all is in order. New executive has been put in place for voting at the AGM on September 24. New executive members are asked to email their contact info to Kendra.
Greg Birtwistle: Noted that Island Junk Solutions Limited hauled away our debris! Thank you to Island Junk Solutions!
Al Wills: Rick Ellis’ partner Marie Metcalf passed away. A $200 donation to hospice on behalf of the club will be delivered. M. Al Wills. S. Helena Myllyniemi
