First 2019 Indoor Club Shoot & Mail Match
The first indoor club shoot of 2019 will take place as usual in the Garry Oak gym at Saanich Commonwealth Place, on Thursday January 3 at 7:40 pm. Attendees can either participate in a regular club shoot, or take part in the Indoor Mail Match:
The Mail Match is an annual archery competition held from the first of January to the end of March. Competitors may shoot a maximum of 1 Canadian 300 Round (30 arrows at 18 meters) per week, for 12-13 weeks. These scores are then sent to the Mail Match Coordinator, who sends out monthly updates of scores and averages. At the end of the 12-13 weeks, the six best scores for each archer are averaged, and two categories of medals are awarded: First under the AC Category divisions (Gold, Silver and Bronze), and second by the listed archer classifications.
Archers can also enter via the Mail Match Team Event, where you compete as a team against other clubs. Each club can only submit one Mail Match Team, and teams must consist of 3-4 members from the same club, including:
at least one (1) finger shooter,
at least one (1) release shooter, and
at least one (1) woman, junior or younger, or wheelchair archer.
The Mailmatch is an excellent competition for archers who can’t make it to any of the larger tournaments during the winter months, or would like to compete under less stressful conditions than on-location tournaments. It also gives competitive archers an idea of how other archers across the country are shooting by comparison.
The first 720/900 Victoria Bowmen Tournament of 2019 will be taking place on Saturday January 5th at the Victoria Bowmen Outdoor Range. PLEASE NOTE: SATURDAY instead of usual SUNDAY, and new times:
Set up for the shoot starts at 9:00 am – all club member shooters help set up.
Practice starts at 9:30 am.
Scoring begins at 10:30 am. (maximum 45 minutes for practice)
There is a 10-15 minute break between distances.
Members are asked to put away their butts etc if they leave early and those who shoot the events are asked to help with take down when the shoot is complete.
If you would like to register for this event, please email Club Tournament Director Sergey Bolutenko. Tournament entry fees are $10 for members, and $20 for guests. All participants must be a member of BC Archery Association/Archery Canada.
So far the weather is to be decent. Please watch the club website and Facebook for announcements of any changes.
