Outdoor Range – Latest News

Some renewing members and prospective new members for 2019 may wish to know more concerning the status of our outdoor range.

We licence our outdoor range from the BC Government. They own that land. The application by BC Transit to put a Handi-Dart parking/maintenance facility on the land has been rejected by the View Royal Council. Hence, we hope that we will have use of the range for a longer period now, but we cannot guarantee anything because the club does not own the land and we are subject to the whims of the BC Government. The town of View Royal has committed to investigating purchasing the land to keep it as a park, which probably would fit with our needs. The club will work with View Royal, but we know it will be a lengthy process.

It is highly unlikely the land would be transferred within one year from now to anyone else. At least we know that local landowners, homeowners and the past View Royal Council would much prefer we are there rather than some industrial facility.

We always will have indoor shooting. If worst comes to worst and we lose that outdoor range we will be looking very hard and fast for a replacement outdoor range and would consider extending indoor range hours.

If we have to leave the present property and our search for a new property does not find anything suitable, the Board will consider partial membership fee refunds for those requesting them. A fair refund would account for the pro-rata time of year and pro-rata costs for running the club and the ranges. Unfortunately, the portion of fees for BCAA/AC insurance/membership cannot be refunded.

Please feel free to discuss with any board member your questions or concerns or please attend our monthly board meetings to have yourself heard. We hope you will continue to support your club for another year.
