Club Shoots Over the Holiday Season

There are no indoor club shoots or JOP on Sunday December 24th or on Sunday December 31st. The usual indoor club shoot will still be on Thursday December 28th at Saanich Commonwealth Place.  As always, the range is open and waiting for you! Always lock the gate after you leave, don’t forget!

INDOOR MAIL MATCH 2018 – Starts Thursday January 4th

The Victoria Bowmen will once again be hosting the Archery Canada Indoor Mail Match tournament, from January 4th through to March 29th, 2018.

For those of you new to the Mail Match format, the tournament runs for 13 weeks, during which you may shoot a weekly Canada 300 round.  You can submit a maximum of twelve weekly scores.  At the end of the tournament, your top six scores are averaged, and are then compared against all other participating archers across Canada.  You may shoot in any of the Olympic Recurve, Compound, Barebow, Compound Unlimited, Compound Fixed Pin, and Hunter classes.  At the end of the tournament medals are awarded, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards to the top 3 male and female archers in each division, along with Gold medals awarded to the top score in each classification.

The cost to participate is $10 per archer.

Last year Victoria Bowmen archers brought home six medals (5 Gold, one Bronze).

For more information, please contact Brad Barclay (  We look forward to seeing you on the shooting line!

Monthly 900/720 Outdoor Tournaments – Sunday January 7th

The first 900/720 outdoor tournament will be on Sunday, January 7th – set up at 8:30, practice from 9:00 to 9:45, first scoring arrow at 10 am.  Registration is required, so to sign up or for more information please contact Billy our Tournament Director at

BC Indoor Championships: March 30 – April 1, 2018

The club is hosting the 2018 BC Indoor Championships, the venue being the Juan De Fuca Curling Rink.  Committees have been formed, and much help is still greatly needed.  ALL members are encouraged to shoot at this event that rarely comes to the Island. But don’t worry – if you volunteer you WILL STILL GET TO SHOOT in the tournament.  Al Wills is coordinating this event. Much-welcomed volunteers can contact him at if they can assist in the lead up to and/or the dates of the event (the latter being the most important).  Looking for people to assist with sponsorship drives (Al can explain), scoring/registration/equipment – other committees to be announced.

If participating in a tournament has always been a curiosity for you, this is the one to try – no travel, on home turf with your own club members at a tournament hosted by your own club, shooting indoors at 18m (just like our regular indoor club shoots) – what more could an archer ask for!?
So get practicing – registration details to come out in the next while – and most importantly please consider giving just a little bit of your time to help make this rare Island event happen.

Victoria Bowmen Next General Meeting – Tuesday January 23, 2018, 7pm, in the Pacific Dogwood Room, Saanich Commonwealth Place
