Victoria Bowmen  and VB JOP Newsletter March 2008 JOP # 15

Hello All,

Here is the latest Victoria Bowmen news as of our last Board meeting Feb 18.

Canada Cup:

The club will be hosting the 2008 Canada Cup May 17 – 19, this is a ‘major’ Canadian event that archers can use for ranking points for making Canadian Teams. It’s your chance to shoot with the best archers in Western Canada in a tournament that while being a ranking tournament it still has the local atmosphere and camaraderie of a VB target tournament. If you’re not up to shooting it, please consider volunteering to help us out with the many jobs that will need to be done that weekend. From set up a few days before to take down after it’s over, to helping sore or helping with results – to , to …. Well, you get the idea!! Please call Tracy 598-7615 or 861-7368. Watch the club website for more information coming soon!

3D tournament March 2nd,

Our club is hosting the next 3D, for information call Doug Bell at 727-9735. Set up is the 1st, so please be careful as some areas may be closed for a short time.

Memberships are now due

If you haven’t renewed for 2008, you are not insured and therefore trespassing, which could make you liable for an accident should one occur! Please contact Lynn ASAP 383-6550.

Spring Clean Up:

Our annual Spring Clean Up Work party will be held Saturday 26th of April at 0900, please come out and help out, bring your garden tools.  There will be a free BBQ on completion.

Please be careful when driving on the range, it is very wet right now, please do not park on the grass ANYWHERE!

J.O.P. Funshoot

There will be an Easter related funshoot on March 29th during regular JOP practice time.  There will be fun novelty targets and shooting and prizes for all.  Admittance is by donation, suggested $3 - $5.  See you there!

Weekly Practices

There is one more J.O.P. practice at Sangster Elementary School from 10:15 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday the 8th.  Please try to come on time.  Please try to stay for the duration of the time so that you may make the most of the practice and help take down.  Space is limited, so try to make use of the room on the stage.  Indoor club practice is at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesdays – March 11th is the last night..

Practice moves outdoors on the 15th.

Field and 3D practice begins around 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays.  The outdoor range is open all year around for personal practice and all of the above practices are open to everyone.

Club shooting is Wednesday evenings from 7PM after daylight savings

FCA Indoor Tournament

There will be an indoor FCA Tournament on March 1st.  All juniors on a 40cm target are eligible to shoot in it.  It will be held at Sangster Elementary at 10:30 a.m., instead of J.O.P. Practice.  There will be a charge for the tournament.  Contact Tracy Klat for details and registration.

This is the Canadian Indoor Championships, which are shot regionally across the country, an excellent opportunity for you to shoot at home and have your score listed with the thousands of others shooting the same day in Canada. If you want information on shooting the tournament, call Al or Mary at 474-4909.

J.O.P. Indoor Championships

The J.O.P. Indoor Championships take place on March 9th at the Cowichan Bowmen Archery Club.  The range is at 3044 Doupe Rd., Duncan, and equipment inspection starts at 8:30 a.m.  All J.O.P. are eligible to compete.  The price is $15 per archer, with discounts for multiple archers – make cheques payable to Cowichan Bowmen Archery.  Pre-registration is required – send them to Dan Milne at danandsandra@shaw.ca, BOX 2040, Ladysmith, B.C., V9G 1B5, or at (250) 245-8078.

Beginner Lessons

Contact George Trattner or Helena Myllyniemi for information on beginning archery lessons.  These courses fill up rapidly, so it is suggested that you sign up well ahead of time.

Equipment

If you are searching for equipment you can check the Buy/Sell section of the web-site.  Remember to show your membership card before purchasing anything at Island Outfitters for a 10% discount.  If you wish to advertise a piece of equipment on the web-site, contact Al Wills; or contact Bradley Clements to advertise junior equipment in this newsletter.

Note to Parents

Please try to get your child to practice on time and allow him/her to stay for the duration of practice.  You should stay to supervise your child, or, if you are unable to do so, ask another parent if they can be responsible for him/her.  If you are a member, you are more than welcome to shoot with your child, or you may volunteer to blow the whistle, help with scoring, help set up/take down, etc.  If you would like to become more involved please ask Mary Wills, our J.O.P. Director.  Your dedication is much appreciated!  Be careful to drive and park on the designated areas
