Victoria Bowmen Newsletter April 2008

Here is the latest news for the Victoria Bowmen as of our last meeting on March 31st. This version of the newsletter is being also mailed to those of you who have not provided us with an email address. It is not possible to send out the newsletter by mail every month, but it is sent out by email. You have a couple of options:

1.      Go to the club website http://www.victoriabowmen.com and subscribe there by providing your email address.

2.      Send an email to al@archeryguy.com and ask to be subscribed.

3.      Call Al @ 474-4909 and give him your email address.

4.     You can also go to your local library or any other computer and view all newsletters on the Club website (address above)

3D Shoots – Congratulations to Doug Bell and his crew on the most successful shoot on March the 2nd! More than 60 shooters attended.

Memberships – There are still a few of you that have not renewed your membership for 2008 – if you are not renewed, you are not insured. Please be sure your new (yellow) membership card is visible the entire time you are on the property.

Outdoor Range Maintenance – It’s that time of year again, we need periodic maintenance of the property, such as mowing the grass, weed whacking, clean up etc. please contact Al or Greg to volunteer.  While on this subject, please do not leave litter at the range, there is NO garbage pickup, so please take out with you what you bring in. And PLEASE keep dogs on a leash and pick up their droppings.

Spring Clean Up – Our Annual Range Clean up Day is this month Saturday April 26th, 2008 at 0900, we need everyone there! Please bring along rakes, shovels and garden pruners. “Many hands make light work”, so the more help we get the easier and faster it will be. There will be a BBQ at noon and you can shoot after that – Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

2008 Canada Cup – We are hosting this shoot May 17 – 19, this is a ‘Major Event’ which Canadian Elite archers can use for ranking points towards Canadian World and Olympic Team berths. The format is 2 days of qualifying and the last day of match play. Everyone is welcome to come and watch, but the best vantage point is that of a volunteer, we need lots of help, from helping add scores to score runners, to computer imputers and butt movers. Please contact Tracy Klat to volunteer.

Next Shoots – Our next 3D shoot is May 4th and our first outdoor FITA will be April 19 & 20, if you are interested contact Doug Bell for 3D , Tracy Klat for FITAs/900s.  If you are interested, but don’t know what you need to do, call Al or any member of the Executive for info.

Your club Board of Directors contact information is printed at the end of this newsletter, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact us directly. Members are always welcome at Board Meetings, the next Board meeting is April 28th at 7:30 PM at the clubhouse.

Victoria Bowmen J.O.P. Newsletter #16 – April 2008

Weekly Practices

J.O.P. practice is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday mornings at the outdoor range.  Try to stay the duration of the practice to make the most of practice, and read the Note to Parents below.

Club practice is Tuesday evenings at the outdoor range.

Field and 3D practice begins around 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays.  The outdoor range is open all year around for personal practice and all of the above practices are open to everyone.

Please be aware the range is quite wet this time of year, you will need proper footwear and be very careful where you park.

FITA Star / Canadian 900

On April 19th there will be a FITA tournament; April 20th will be a Canadian 900 tournament, both at 10:00 a.m. (practice starts at 9)  Juniors and Cadets shoot 900 rounds at 55, 45 and 35 meters, others at shorter distances.  There will be a charge, probably $15, for the tournaments.  Wear tournament whites.  Contact Tracy Klat to register and for further details.

Clean-Up Party

There will be a clean-up party at the outdoor range at 9:00 a.m. on April 26th.  The clean-up will be followed by a B.B.Q.

Beginner Lessons

Contact George Trattner or Helena Myllyniemi for information on beginning archery lessons.  These courses fill up rapidly, so it is suggested that you sign up well ahead of time.

Equipment

·       Black finger-sling, extra large finger tab, and black net chest guard – all new.  If you are interested in any or all contact Bradley Clements (see Contacts).  Yours for whatever you feel they’re worth.

If you are searching for equipment you can check the Buy/Sell section of the web-site.  Remember to show your membership card before purchasing anything at Island Outfitters for a 10% discount.  If you wish to advertise a piece of equipment on the web-site, contact Al Wills; or contact Bradley Clements to advertise junior equipment in this newsletter.

Note to Parents

Please try to get your child to practice on time and allow him/her to stay for the duration of practice.  You should stay to supervise your child, or, if you are unable to do so, ask another parent if they can be responsible for him/her.  If you are a member, you are more than welcome to shoot with your child, or you may volunteer to blow the whistle, help with scoring, help set up/take down, etc.  If you would like to become more involved please ask Mary Wills, our J.O.P. Director.  Your dedication is much appreciated!  Be careful to drive and park on the designated areas when at the outdoor range.
