Victoria Bowmen & JOP Newsletter - March 2007

Here is the latest Victoria Bowmen News, as of our last Board Meeting on the 12th. Please note we are finished shooting outdoors, all practices are now at the outdoor range!

Roads and Care of the Range:

The entire range is very wet this time of year, please be very careful where you park and drive, try to stay on the gravel. Do not park on the grass anywhere. There is no garbage pick up on the range, please take your garbage back home with you. Thank you for your cooperation.

Commissionaires:

This is a good time to remind everyone to be extra courteous to the commissionaires, if you should have any issues with them, please refer them to the Club Board Members, do not take any action on your own.

Work Party:

It’s that time of year again, we need to get the outdoor range cleaned up and ready for our spring/summer shooting season. So, please come out, make it a family affair – April 28th 0900. We need lots of help; there is lots of work to do! There will be a BBQ afterwards (at 12). So, please give us a couple of hours.

Shooting Times:

Club shooting nights are now Wednesdays, lessons are Tuesday nights. JOP is Saturday Mornings 10 – 12.

If you are interested in trying 3D or Field shooting come to the outdoor range early Saturday mornings or early Wednesday evenings.  If you are not familiar with the trails you should ask an experienced archer if you may join them - most will be happy to have you along.

Remember that the outdoor range is open all year round so you can come and practice anytime.  Remember your ID for the gate, wear your membership card on the range, and only park in the designated gravel parking areas to avoid getting stuck.

Beginner's Lessons

If you or someone you know has never shot before but would like to learn archery, George Trattner's beginner lessons are great opportunity to do so.  A portion of registration fees goes toward club membership if you choose to join.  The next series will begin sometime in April at the outdoor range.  These lessons seem to be very popular and effective!  Contact George for details.

Helena Myllyniemi is teaching cases for younger children at the Commonwealth pool.  Contact here for details.

Equipment

If you are looking for archery equipment, here are some sources you can try:

·                    The Buy/Sell section of the website has usually got some good used equipment.  Contact Al Wills webmaster@victoriabowmen.com  if you wish to post an advertisement or request there.

·                    George Trattner has a box of sights, stabilizers, quivers and other equipment on sale.  JOP members may get a special deal on this equipment!  Contact George at equipment@victoriabowmen.com

·                    You can also order in bows and other equipment through Island Outfitters (located at 3319 Douglas Street, phone number is (250)475-4f969).  Show your club membership for a 10% discount.

Courses

If you are interested in becoming a qualified Judge or Coach, here is an opportunity!  The Judging Course is on March 31st and April 1st, and costs $60.  The Coaching Course is on April 15th and 16th and costs $90.  These costs include all materials and are subject to change.  Register as soon as possible as they will only be on if there are enough participants.

Note to Parents

You are asked to stay and watch over your children when they are at practice. Volunteers are very much appreciated.  Please note dates and write them on your calendar.  Thank you - your dedication is very much appreciated!

Please pass this information on to anyone who may not have received it.  Thank you!
