Victoria Bowmen Newsletter January 2007
Weather Woes at the Outdoor Range The rotten weather didn’t spare the outdoor range, the 900 butt shelter and all the butts blew over causing quite a mess! Thank you to the hardy 3D souls who have righted the butts. We’re not sure if we have the manpower to get the roof back on, if you think you can help, contact the president.
Next Meeting of the Board The next meeting of the Board of Directors is Monday February 5th at the Clubhouse, all members are welcome to attend.
3D Course nearly ready Doug tells us that a great group have been slaving away in this rotten weather getting the 3D course ready for the upcoming tournament, sounds like it will be a great shoot – Contact Doug for more info: bowhunting[at]victoriabowmen.com
Memberships are now due If you haven’t renewed yet, it’s now time, you cannot use the range without insurance. If your shooting without insurance, you are not only putting yourself at risk, but other members also!
Memberships are now due We have installed a new, large calendar on the back door of the clubhouse, it has all the upcoming shoots on the island (and else where), have a look next time your there and plan your shooting year!
Memberships are now due Plans are underway for a Coaching Course for those who would like to help out in the instruction and coaching of our members. We are also planning a Judging course for those interested in judging indoor and outdoor tournaments. If you are interested, please contact Tracy: tournaments’at’victoriabowmen.com

If you are interested in trying 3D or Field shooting come out EARLY Saturday mornings or early Wednesday evenings. Tournaments · The JOP Mail Match is on, and if you are shooting on a 40 cm target you are eligible to shoot it. The tournament is free and convenient. Ribbons are awarded to the first five places. The tournament runs until February, 2007. · The JOP Regionals are held from January 27th to February 2nd. This is a Canadian 300 Round Mail Match and is open to all levels. Each archer must shoot on the target prescribed for his/her level. There is a charge of $2.50. · There is an Indoor FITA 1 tournament on February 3rd. This is shot on a 3-spot 40 cm target, so only archers of this level are eligible to shoot it. There is a charge of $15. · There is a 3D Tournament on February 11th at the outdoor range. This is shot in the forest so be aware that you may loose some arrows! Lunch is provided. Contact Doug Bell for details. For more information you can contact Mary Wills or Tracy Klat.
Note to Parents You are asked to stay and watch over your children when they are at JOP practice. When you are absolutely unable to stay and look after them for the whole practice, please arrange with another adult to do so for you. You can read a book, chat with other parents, even try your hand at archery, or, better yet, volunteer to help with the practice. If you know a bit about archery you can give the newer kids a bit of casual coaching or teach them to score. Or you can volunteer to blow the whistle, put up targets, help in the setting up and putting away of equipment, ext. If you would like a job, please do not hesitate to ask! Please try your best to get your kids to practice on time and stay the duration of the practice so that they can get the most of the practice and help set up and take down equipment. It is not fair to leave the work only to a couple of dedicated archers and volunteers. Also try to come to practice on a regular basis. Read the Newsletters and mark the dates on your calendars. Your dedication is very much appreciated!
