The JOP newsletter follows:
Victoria Bowmen JOP Newsletter - November 2006
Weekly PracticesJOP practices are on Saturday – if you haven’t signed up for a time you still can - 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., or 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. There will also be club indoor practice times (open to everyone) from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesdays. Thursdays are no longer indoor practice, due to low turnout. If you are interested in trying 3D or Field shooting come out EARLY Saturday mornings or early Wednesday evenings. If you are not familiar with the courses you should ask an experienced archer if you may join them. Most will be happy to have you along with them. Remember that the outdoor range is open all year around, so if you ever want any extra practice come out any time!
Membership Renewal Your membership will not be running out until the end of December, but our Membership Director would appreciate it if you could send in your forms as soon as possible so that she doesn’t receive a big pile of forms all at once. Membership forms can be found on the Victoria Bowmen web-site.
Equipment If you have not yet got your own archery equipment it is suggested that you try to get some soon, as club equipment will not be available after the end of December. There are several used bows for sale within the club for good prices. Let Al Wills know (secretary[at]victoriabowmen.com) what you want and he will put up a note in the Buy/Sell section of the web-site. George Trattner has some new and used bows, quivers, sights, and other equipment for reasonable prices. If you are interested you can contact him (equipment[at]victoriabowmen.com). You can also order in bows and other equipment through Island Outfitters (located at 3319 Douglas St., phone number is (250) 475-4969). Show your club membership for 10% discount. There are several other near-by and on-line stores that you can order equipment from, just ask around. Ask experienced archers for suggestions on a good bow and matching arrows for yourself.
Range Closed The indoor range will not be open for general use on the following dates: November 21st, 2006November 23rd, 2006 December 12th, 2006 December 14th, 2006 December 16th, 2006 December 19th, 2006 December 21st, 2006 December 26th, 2006 December 28th, 2006 December 30th, 2006
JOP FundraiserThis year the JOP are fundraising with Purdy’s Chocolates! Pick up a catalogue from practice and show it to your friends, teachers, relatives or neighbors! Orders must be in by November 11th and will be ready December 16th. Help would be appreciated to pack orders into bags on December 13th. We need to earn $700 in order to get a 25% profit. Send your order-forms in to Lynn Brochu. Whoever gets the largest order receives a free package of chocolates! Contact Lynn Brochu for details and info. There are still some smoked salmon fundraisers left – they come in post-card packages with JOP pictures and are perfect for gifts.
Note to Parents You are asked to stay and watch over your children when they are at JOP practice. When you are absolutely unable to stay and look after them for the whole practice, please arrange with another adult to do so for you. You can read a book, chat with other parents, even try your hand at archery, or, better yet, volunteer to help with the practice. If you know a bit about archery you can give the newer kids a bit of casual coaching or teach them to score. Or you can volunteer to blow the whistle, put up targets, help in the setting up and putting away of equipment, ext. If you would like a job, please do not hesitate to ask! Please try your best to get your kids to practice on time and stay the duration of the practice so that they can get the most of the practice and help set up and take down equipment. It is not fair to leave the work only to a couple of dedicated archers and volunteers. Also try to come to practice on a regular basis. Read the Newsletters and mark the dates on your calendars. Your dedication is very much appreciated!
