JOP Archery Newsletter #2 – January 2006

Hi Everyone,

Please note that JOP newsletters will be e-mailed Tuesday mornings. If you don't have e-mail, I will have a few copies available at the shoots. There is also a Club newsletter e-mailed monthly to members. It is also on web-site, www.victoriabowmen.com

JOP Regional Tournament
Saturday’s Tournament went fairly well. Thank you to everyone who helped and participated. As the tournament is week-long, those who missed Saturday still have an opportunity on Tuesday, Jan.31st at 7pm and Thursday, Feb.2, 2006 at 7pm. To make arrangements call Gayle at 478-7374 or E-mail gemsam@islandnet.com  I have 2 JOP’s who will be shooting it Tuesday and 1 so far Thursday. It’s a 300 round with 10 ends of 3 arrows each. Official practice of 2 ends at 7:20pm with tournament to start at 7:30pm. Tournament runs about 30 minutes. Cost is $2.50 (for BCAA) Please bring correct change!!!!

Feb.4 Saturday JOP Session
Saturday, Feb.4 at 9am – 10:30am and 10:30am – 12pm to accommodate the MICA Indoor tournament from 12-4pm. Please arrive on time to help set-up for the 9am session. Parents please stay to help your kids and learn more about archery.

Multi-Site Indoor Championships of the Americas (MICA) Tournament
Saturday, Feb.4, 2006 from 12pm – 4pm at the John Stubbs School. Cost is $15.00. If you can shoot on the 40cm target, this tournament is for you – JOP and adults alike! Come out and compete against all of North and South America. Please call Tracy at 598-7615 or E-mail  tournaments@victoriabowmen.com

Shoot-a-Thon
Tentative date is Saturday, Feb.28, 2006. Regular lesson times apply. We will run the shoot-a-thon like a tournament for practice. Pledge forms will be available Saturday, Feb.7, 9, and 11th, 2006 at our regular shoots.  Details TBA.

Wal-Mart Salmon Sale Fundraiser
We have 50 packages of Smoked Salmon left for sale. We will book a table at the Langford Wal-Mart on a Sunday in Feb or March before the Indoors in Abbotsford to pay for the bus and ferry.

Provincial JOP Indoor Championship
Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 12, 2006. We will meet at the Ferry at 6am, walk on for the 7am Ferry. A bus will meet us in Tawwassen to take us to Abbotsford at the Ag-Rec Building and arrive around 10am. After the tournament, we leave around 4:30pm and take the bus back to the Ferry and walk on. Parents can pick-up kids around 8:30pm back in Victoria. Traditionally, an average of 35 JOP’s make the trip. Parents can take empty seats on a first come – first serve basis. Cost TBA.  Fundraising with the  Shoot-a-thon and Salmon Sale at Wal-Mart will help pay for bus and ferry. Sign-up by March 4, 2006.

2006 Zone 6 JOP Club Championships
Sunday, April 2nd, 2006 at 10:30am at the Nanoose Bay Range, $5.00 per archer. Some hot lunch items will be available. We will need parent drivers for this tournament. Details TBA. Sign-up by March 25, 2006.

JOP Mail-Match
Last chance for a January score is Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006. Anyone wanting to participate for February can still join. There is no cost. All shooting categories and JOP age levels participate. The round shot is a 300 Round, shot from 18m on a 40cm target, single or 3 Spot. Ask for details.

There is a wealth of information here and should be checked out. Please check frequently, as new news is put up almost daily. Minutes from Board Meetings, Club Newsletters, Contact Information, Shooting Dates and Times, etc. are all available. Membership forms can be printed from the Club Forms tab on the homepage. 2006 Memberships are now due. JOP kids need to wear their membership cards while shooting.
