Victoria Bowmen Newsletter March 2005

Hello All,

Welcome to the latest Victoria Bowmen news as of our Board meeting last night (the 21st).

Congratulations to all the JOP archers who braved the ferry fiasco while travelling to the JOP Indoor Championships in Abbotsford!  A special congrats to the winners! Thank you to all the parents who assisted in driving looking after our largest contingent ever. The club is very proud of you all!

Indoor has ended for another year! We have already started shooting outdoors, JOP now meets Saturday Morning from 10 AM - 1 PM. Once daylight savings time has started they will also shoot on Tuesday and Thursday Evenings. The club night for shooting target is Tuesday from 7 PM all adults are invited out to shoot 900s or short FITAs and to socialise afterwards. Most of the 3D archers meet early Wednesday afternoons after work.

As outdoor shooting begins, don't forget the commissionaires, they have a job to do! You should have your membership card ready to show them and be as courteous as possible, if you should have any problems at any time with a commissionaire, contact our DND Liaison, Al Wills at 474-4909. We are very fortunate to have these gentlemen looking after us, please treat them with the utmost respect!

Also as outdoor shooting begins it is time for a few reminders, take all garbage out with you - there is no garbage pick up at the range. Please pick up any litter you find, it all contributes to making the range look better. The club house is used by many people, it can always us a bit of a clean up, so if your taking a break from shooting, how about giving it a bit of TLC!?! Be sure to park so as not to block access, the road down to the FITA range is a fire road and is NOT for parking at anytime! In this wet time of year, be very careful when parking, if you get stuck, it is your responsibility to get unstuck and fill in the ruts! When you arrive at the range, be sure to check the Welcome to Victoria sign to see if either of the 'Range Closed' signs is up, one means the Field Course is close and the other means all ranges are closed. Please respect these signs, they are there for the safety of workers!

Please watch for an announcement concerning the outdoor clean up and work party usually in early May, everyone is encouraged to come out and get the range ready for the busy outdoor season.

We are looking for assistants to help out with the JOP program on Saturdays, while archery coaching experience would be nice, the willingness to assist as directed is the most desirable quality, please contact Cliff. Any assistance you can give would be much appreciated, the JOP needs help in coaching, fund raising, transport and just general helping out!

Upcoming events:

The next Club Board meeting is April 24th.

The next 3D shoot at our range is May 29th and the first FITA Star tournament at our range is April 30/May 1st
