THE VICTORIA BOWMEN ASSOCIATION

Newsletter January 17, 2012

Hello Victoria Bowmen Members

Here is the latest news about the club from our latest Board Meeting January 17th. The minutes of this meeting and our Championships meeting are on the website, please review them.

Happy New Year, this should be a very exciting and busy year for archery in Victoria. Our new range should be ready this spring and we look forward to an official opening in the summer. We plan to have the Opening Ceremonies of the Canadian Championships and the Official Opening of our range on August 9th.

Also, we are hosting the 2012 Canadian Outdoor Archery Championships, which will give us all a chance to see Canada’s (and the World’s) best archers in competition, more on this to follow:

 Indoor Shooting

We are now shooting indoors on Sunday afternoons from 1:30 – 3:30 PM and Thursday evenings from 7:40 – 9:40 PM. Please check out our website

You are reminded to wear you membership card (Yellow) prominently (on your quiver is suggested) while shooting both indoors and outdoors

Tournaments

We have hosted 2 successful tournaments on December 10 and January 15th, the results of them both are on our website. Our members who do not want to shoot the tournaments are still welcome to shoot adjacent to the tournament, giving everyone the opportunity to shoot under correct procedures.

We will host outdoor tournaments this year, starting with our traditional Queen Victoria Shoot, which is a Canadian 900 shoot on May 27th and then a FITA 720 on June 23 & 24.

Don’t be intimidated by the thought of ‘tournaments’, they are fun and we will walk everyone through all the necessary procedures. Instructions on all facets of tournaments are on the website under ‘Archery Info’, including a new section on ‘How to score archery tournaments’, if you still have any question, just ask, we can help!

Mailmatches:

Archery Canada Tir à l’Arc runs mailmatches every year, an opportunity for us all to compete with other clubs across Canada. We are participating for more information on the mailmatches, contact Larry Gagnon 382-1266.

2012 Nationals

As previously announced we will be hosting the 2012 Canadian Championships at West Shore Recreation next summer (9 -12 August).

We will have a presentation before shooting on Sunday January 22nd, where we will discuss what is required to host a successful event, please try and come out even if you won’t be shooting. If you want your name on the list to work the event, please contact Al @ 474-4909.

New Gate:

We have purchased a new ‘Swing’ Gate, which we hope to install once the weather gets a bit better, it is a thing of beauty!! It will make access to the range much easier for all.

Targets:

One of the biggest expenses we have each year are targets, each one costs from .25 - .40 each, so you are asked to use a used target when ever possible. If you really want a new one, by all means, but please see if you can find an acceptable used one first.

 2012 Memberships

If you have not renewed you membership yet, you are not insured and therefore, not allowed to shoot as per our agreement with Saanich Recreation, please contact our membership director Larry Gagnon, lagaganon@gmail.com or 382-1266

Looking forward to seeing you all on the range soon!

The latest news will be on the website as it happens, please keep it bookmarked: http://www.victoriabowmen.com
