Victoria
Bowmen Newsletter January 2008 (Includes JOP News # 14)
Hello All,
Here is the latest news as of our Board meeting this past Monday:
Indoor Shooting:
We have a new indoor facility (at least new to us), it is Sangster School 3325 Metchosin Road Saturday Mornings 9 – 1, Tuesday evenings 8PM – 10PM (see the website for directions). You are asked to be sure you are there early so that you can help put up the equipment; it is not fair to have others do it for you.
Next Tournament:
Our next is February 2nd an indoor event shooting the FITA standard 18M round, 60 arrows (2 x 30 arrow rounds). Practice will start at 1030 and end at 1115, then scoring will commence. The tournament is the Multi-Sites Indoor Championships of the Americas (MICA), this tournament is shot in all countries in the Americas, and the scores are tabulated and published on the web. Those in the top 3 of any category receive medals from the COPARCO (The Americas Archery Federation). This tournament follows FITA categories (Compound/Recurve, Men/Women, Cadet, Junior, Senior, Master). Here is your chance to have your scores listed with the best shooters in the Americas. This is an excellent opportunity to shoot your first tournament or to get back in the swing of tournament shooting. The entire procedure is simple to follow and the judge will explain it all to everyone, the group is happy to have new comers, so come on out! You should let our tournament chair, Tracy know that you intend to shoot, tournaments@victoriabowmen.com.
The next indoor tournament is March 1st, a similar format, except that this one is shot regionally for Canada. The event is sponsored by the Federation of Canadian Archers, so all their categories apply: http://www.fca.ca
Annual Dues
Renewals are coming in, please don’t be caught without your insurance. You are asked to wear your new (yellow) membership card so it is visible both indoors and out. If you’re not wearing your membership card, you can expect to be challenged. Even if you are renewing you need to send in a new membership form as we need the waiver signed every year.
Membership forms are available on the website: http://victoriabowmen.com/forms/formsindex.htm
For more information, please contact our Membership Director Lynn Brochu at 383-6550 or a7a34935@telus.net.
3D Shoots – we are planning 2 3D Shoots for the spring 2nd of March and 4th of May. Contact Doug Bell for info and to volunteer to assist him. Note that these shoots use the entire range, the 900 and FITA ranges are closed.
Great Shooters in
this Club:
At the January Cowichan Shoot Bernie Van Gylswyk was first (again), Kelly McKewon took a 3rd and Doug Bell took a 2nd, congratulations to them all!
Dogs:
We don’t want to have to take action to restrict dogs on the range; however the few that are not cleaning up after their dogs are ruining it for everyone else.
The next Board meeting will be February 18th at the clubhouse all members are welcome.
Weekly Practices
J.O.P. practice is held

time, but the doors will not be open until George’s beginners classes have
finished at 10:15. Please try to
stay for the duration of the time so that you may make the most of the practice
and help take down.
Space is limited, so try to make use of the room on
the stage. Club practice is
at 8:00
p.m. on Tuesdays.
Field and
3D practice begins around

is open all year around for personal practice and all of the above practices are
open to everyone.
If you are interested in trying 3D or Field shooting come out to the outdoor range EARLY Saturday mornings or early Wednesday evenings. If you are not familiar with the courses, you should ask an experienced archer if you may join them. Most will be happy to have you along with them.
