NOTICE
Adam Bazner is recovering from an illness. The 3-D shoot held last month returned some profits, all of which will go to Adam. He has now returned to the hospital in Vancouver for what we hope will be his last treatments. Adam, we all wish you well in your recovery! The directors have recently submitted our annual request to Dept. of National Defence (DND) to renew the lease on our club property. We have been granted a renewal for another year. You should be aware however, that the military now has active plans for the property that could make 1999 our last year. We have heard this many times in the past but this is the first time they have actually shown Al the plans. This presents us all with an interesting challenge. Should we lose this property to another group, we will be forced to seek other property. It's very unlikely that we will be fortunate enough to find one as spacious and secure as our current location. Please make every effort to respect the land that we have. We truly have one of the best archery clubs in North America. Property Committee Vesa is organizing a Property Purchase Committee. Please contact Vesa if you have any ideas for property purchase or lease. His phone number is on the last page of this newsletter. Victoria Bowmen Association was proud to sponsor a number of our members in the National competitions. We are pleased that we have such talented athletes in our midst. It says a lot for our club, coaches, facilities and members. We applaud these members as they have invested many dollars and countless hours into their shooting. It has obviously paid off. These competitors can teach us all a lesson in determination and self-discipline. Congratulations to Angela Pretty who recently shot 1300 in a FITA Star! She is the first Olympic woman in Canadian archery history to do so! There can only be one first and Angela did it! Way to go! Annual General Meeting: Our AGM will be held: September 30 7:00 PM At the clubhouse. The new Board of Directors is elected at the AGM, should you wish to serve "your" club please contact Al Wills, chairman of the nominating committee at 474-4009/ The AGM is an important annual event. Make plans to attend! Wine and cheese will be served! He has been sneaking around, stalking victims for pictures. Be sure to come and check out the site - you may be on there for the world to see! The page is still very much under development. Al has kept fancy graphics to a minimum, so it will load quickly. And, no advertising! More features are being added every week. We are starting to get responses from non-members as well. Vesa recently got an email from Colorado. Soon, the page will include pictures of some of our members, the event calendar, and possibly even the classified section ( see below ). While the internet has somewhat of a reputation of being filled with clutter, our web page contains much valuable information about who we are as a club, and what we do. It is an effective vehicle for sharing advice with clubs who look to us for advice and information. We encourage you to stop by soon. If you have a personal or commercial web page, we will be happy to trade links with you. Please email Al Wills if you wish to arrange this. If you know of any interesting archery related links, please let Al know. Please contact either Vesa, Al, or myself if you would like to put an ad here for buying or selling archery-related equipment. This service is free for members - non members fee is $100 per person, which includes a free membership in the Victoria Bowmen club! What a deal! But wait, don't buy yet! There's more! For those of you that have digital cameras or scanners out there, we'll include a picture of the equipment that you are trying to sell, as long as you supply the picture in digital format - ready for printing. Please make pictures well lit, and against a plain white background. We decide the space that it gets on the page! The joys of being the editor! Gadgets Wanted Oneida bow (TIII or AeroForce)left handed, about 60lb draw, and 32î draw length.Contact Mark Yager 744-1255 This month: Stretching Stretching is a matter of personal self-discipline. Archery is a demanding sport on many small muscle groups, and many archers do not stretch well before and after shooting. Since archery is an asymmetrical sport (you use different back muscles on your right side than your left) , it is important to use the proper stretches. You will shoot better and feel better afterwards. See a doctor or chiropractor for more details.
