About the Victoria Bowmen

Club History

The beginnings go back to the year 1949 when the club started under the name of Maquinna Bowmen, after a famous Indian Chief of Vancouver Island. The name was changed months later to Victoria Bowmen. Over the years the Victoria Bowmen have gained the reputation of being one of the strongest and most progressive clubs in Canada, hosting events such as: The Pacific Northwest Archery Championships, BC Indoor and Outdoor Championships and several times the Canadian Archery Championships. Many members have been on the Olympic and International level teams, as athletes, team officials and judges. See Club history for more

1997 World Archery Championships at Victoria Bowmen

The club distinguished itself in 1997 by successfully hosting the XXXIXth World Archery Championships on the grounds of the University of Victoria. Nearly 400 archers from over 40 countries from around the world participated making it the second largest World Archery competition ever. This was only the third time the tournament had been held in North America and the first time in Canada. Results
